We recently attended a Brisbane property for a routine termite inspection where we uncovered extensive live Coptotermes termite activity concealed behind a large cabinet inside an internal wall.

At first, there were only subtle signs visible to the homeowner. After moving the cabinet to gain proper access to the wall, we discovered a large termite bivouac (sub nest) hidden inside the wall cavity with active termites and carton material extending through concealed sections of the structure.

Why Coptotermes Are So Destructive

Coptotermes are considered one of the most destructive termite species in Australia. They work silently behind walls, flooring and cabinetry, often causing significant structural damage long before homeowners realise there is a problem.

In this case, the termites had created a protected humid environment within the wall cavity using processed timber, saliva and carton material. This allows the colony to remain concealed while continuing to feed on nearby structural timber.

Treatment Process

Once the termite activity was identified, we carried out a targeted termite treatment to the active workings and affected wall areas. The goal was to eliminate the active termites while minimising disturbance to the colony behaviour.

Following the initial treatment, we returned to the property to install a full termite management system around the home to help provide ongoing protection against future termite attack.

Two Week Follow-Up Inspection

Two weeks after treatment and installation of the termite management system, we carried out a follow-up inspection to assess the affected areas and monitor termite activity.

At the follow-up visit, all live termite activity within the affected areas had been completely eliminated and the treatment showed excellent results. Ongoing inspections remain an important part of long-term termite management, particularly with aggressive species such as Coptotermes.

Two weeks later, Termidor Foam has created a

web and termites are dead. Good transfer

effect in the termite colony.

Why Regular Termite Inspections Matter

One of the biggest challenges with termites is that most infestations remain hidden until major damage has already occurred. Furniture, stored items and wall linings can easily conceal termite activity for months or even years.

Regular professional termite inspections are one of the best ways to detect problems early and reduce the risk of costly structural repairs.
